Last month, we had the official opening of the new Spearline headquarters by Daniel Mulhall, the Ambassador of Ireland to the USA, in Skibbereen, Co Cork.
The launch event was attended by over 200 guests from the business community and the speeches were moderated by Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law of UCC. In addition to Ambassador Mulhall, guest speakers were Councillor Joe Carroll, Deputy Mayor of the County of Cork; Martin Corkery, Regional Director, South & South East Regions, Enterprise Ireland; and Terri Kearney, Director at Skibbereen Heritage Centre. Spearline Co-Founder and CEO, Kevin Buckley announced a doubling of the workforce with the creation of 75 new jobs within 16 months (Read the press release here).
I am privileged to be part of Spearline and really enjoyed the lead-up to the HQ launch and the day itself. It embodied PR and stakeholder management in its truest sense as my role involved liaising with media, public representatives, business and local communities, and so on.
It brings me back to a Steve Jobs quote I have often referred to over the years…
A few years ago, I added my own line: “Sometimes, there are different ways to do what you love and great work always follows.”
At the time, little did I think I would end up doing PR for an innovative tech company headquartered in West Cork!
